About Us
Our School is situated close to the town centre on the south side of Luton.
Children are admitted into the Reception classes the September after their fourth birthday. The majority transfer from our own Nursery unit. A minority of children transfer from Chapel Street Nursery, Rothesay Nursery and other pre-school settings.
Class organisation is as follows:
- Three Reception classes
- Three Year 1 classes
- Three Year 2 classes
Our School has been extended and refurbished extensively over the past few years, including a full site wide upgrade to our IT infrastructure. The nine classrooms all feature areas for independent, group and whole class learning, and a large interactive whiteboard. Our purpose built Reception unit, also comprises an extra room which homes a very popular role play area amongst other learning spaces. This leads outside into our purpose built outdoor learning environment including a mud kitchen, reading throne, enclosed sandpit.
Our Nursery is in a separate building, and shares its outdoor learning area with the Reception unit. The Nursery features exciting learning spaces, including role play, book corners and soft play area.
At the centre of the School is our multi-use school hall. The hall houses a range of gymnastic equipment and sports equipment that all pupils access as part of their physical education lessons. It is also used daily for assemblies, music sessions, drama and group activities. The hall is also where family and information sessions, year and class group performances are held. During lunchtime, it transforms into our school's dining hall, where children enjoy eating their meal from the extensive menu provided by our on-site catering team, Aspens.
Our Learning and Resource centre provides a learning space for pupils to immerse themselves into a wide range of books. Pupils can relax with a story, research using the selection of non-fiction books and borrow a book during our weekly library sessions. Our School also benefits from a dedicated IT suite housing Chromebooks and IT devices where pupils can develop their computing skills.
Our Wellbeing room is a multi-sensory space for pupils to relax and unwind. It is also used for small group learning and story sessions.
All pupils have access to our outdoor areas including a large hard surfaced playground, an adventure playground, a magical toadstool circle with story telling throne and a playing field.
We provide an excellent wrap around provision through our Care Club service offering breakfast and after school clubs during term time. Our Care Club provision also supports parents of Hillborough Junior School.
